For the third consecutive year, as part of the Embassy’s continued efforts to promote safe and legal migration among the Sri Lankan community in Jordan, the Embassy successfully conducted an awareness programme at the Embassy premises, with the participation of the Sri Lankan community and representatives of garment factories in Jordan on 21 August 2026.
In her opening remarks, Gajithra Navan, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., welcomed the participants and highlighted the valuable contribution made by the Sri Lankan migrant workers to the country’s economic development, particularly through remittances. Chargé d’Affaires a.i. encouraged the Sri Lankan community to pursue safe and legal migration, respect the laws and regulations of Jordan, and maintain valid passports and residence and work permits.
The programme included comprehensive presentations on human smuggling and trafficking and safe migration by the Counsellor, SLBFE (Employment & Welfare), G.R.S. Gunawardana, and on consular functions by H.P. Liyanage, Consular Officer of the Embassy.
An interactive question and answer session allowed participants to seek clarification on matters relating to labour welfare, protection, safe migration, and consular services.
Following the programme, the Embassy officials provided special consular assistance to needy Sri Lankan nationals.
The programme reaffirmed the Embassy’s continued commitment to protecting the welfare of Sri Lankan migrant workers and strengthening consular support and services for the Sri Lankan community in Jordan.
