Sri Lanka – Jordan Bilateral Relations

Sri Lanka and Jordan have friendly relationship and close people-to-people links, as well as growing trade and commercial engagement. Sri Lanka started bilateral relations with Jordan in 1965 and the Sri Lanka Embassy in Jordan was opened in 1996 by establishing diplomatic relations. The Embassy of Jordan based in New Delhi, India is currently accredited to Sri Lanka.

High Level Visit

  • Former Minister of Telecommunication, Digital Infrastructure and Foreign Employment, Harin Fernando had an official visit to Jordan from 19 th to 20 th August 2018.
  • Former State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vasantha Senanayake paid an official visit to Jordan from 9 th to 11 th May 2018.
  • Former President Mahinda Rajapaksha paid an official visit to Jordan on 05 th January 2017.
  • Former Foreign Secretary of Jordan, Moh’d Taisir Bani Yassin visited Sri Lanka for a bilateral discussion from 18 th to 20 th May 2016.
  • Former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka paid an official visit to Jordan from 26 th to 28 th March 2008.
  • Former President Mahinda Rajapaksha attended the Economic Summit in Jordan from 16 th to 18 th May 2007.
  • Former Minister of Export Development and International Trade to Jordan visited to Sri Lanka on 18 th May 2007.
  • King Hussien visited Sri Lanka to participate in the Non Alignment Summit was held in Colombo in 1976.

  2. Agreement between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Air Services ( 31.08.1992).
  3. Agreement between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for the Avoidance of Double Taxation of Income Derived from International Air Transport (21.08.2002).
  4. MoU on Cooperation in Tourism and Archaeology between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (26.12.2004).
  5. MoU between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Supply of Man Power (07.02.2006).
  6. Agreement on Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Government of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (18.05.2007).
